hosphonates handle threshold inhibition and crystal distortion. Polymers handle a different job: keeping fine particles suspended so they leave the system in blowdown rather than depositing on heat transfer surfaces. Polyacrylic acid is the workhorse of that second category. It is non-toxic, readily water-soluble, and functions under alkaline conditions and moderate cycles of concentration without scaling, dispersing microcrystals of calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and suspended silt so they do not settle.
The application map is broader than cooling water alone. PAA is used as a scale and dispersant agent in circulating cooling systems of power plants, chemical plants, fertilizer plants, refineries, and HVAC systems, and also in papermaking, textile printing and dyeing, ceramics, coatings, and construction materials. Dosage in water treatment typically runs 1–15 mg/L when used alone, with formulation-specific doses determined by water quality and equipment metallurgy. Because performance depends heavily on molecular weight and solids content, a manufacturer’s ability to control polymerization and offer tailored viscosity grades matters more than a headline “PAA” label.
KR Chemical’s polymer line sits alongside its phosphonate and biocide production within the same 280,000-ton monomer additive complex, giving formulators a single-source option for the polymer component of an all-organic program. Polyacrylic Acid is available across standard solids grades for industrial water treatment and adjacent applications. Contact:
