Phosphino-Carboxylic Acid (PCA)

Phosphino-Carboxylic Acid (PCA), also known as phosphono-carboxylic acid or polyphosphino carboxylic acid (PPCA), is a low molecular weight polymer used as a scale inhibitor and dispersant in water treatment . Its key advantage is its ability to control a wider range of scales than some traditional polymers, especially in challenging conditions .

Key Applications

PCA is widely used in industrial water systems, including:

Industrial Cooling Water & Boiler Systems: It effectively controls the deposition of calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, barium sulfate, and silicate scales .

Oilfield Applications: It is used in油田回注水 systems to prevent scale formation and corrosion in downhole and surface equipment . A 2026 study showed that at dosages above 35 ppm, PPCA achieved over 90% scale inhibition efficiency .

Performance & Synergy

High Performance: PCA is thermally stable, resistant to chlorine, and effective across a wide pH range, even in high-hardness and high-salinity water . It also helps disperse iron oxide .

Synergistic Blends: It is often used in combination with other chemicals like organic phosphonates, zinc salts, or azoles for enhanced performance .
