HEDP·K₂ (Potassium salt of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid) is a highly effective, multi-functional organophosphonate. Its core application areas are in industrial water treatment and metal surface management, where it functions as a scale inhibitor, corrosion inhibitor, and chelating agent.

Its key advantage over the sodium salt form (HEDP·Na₂) is its significantly higher solubility under neutral conditions. This makes it particularly suitable for systems where high solubility and compatibility are required.

Water Treatment & Boiler Systems

This is the largest and most significant area of use for HEDP·K₂.

Scale Inhibition: It is an excellent inhibitor of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) scale and can also help control calcium phosphate and other inorganic scales. Typical dosages for scale inhibition range from 5-20 ppm.

System Protection: Widely used to protect equipment in circulating cooling water systems, low-pressure boiler water systems, and reverse osmosis (RO) systems from scale formation and corrosion.

Synergistic Effects: It can be used in combination with zinc salts to enhance the corrosion inhibition effect on carbon steel.

Cleaning & Surface Treatment

Its chelating and cleaning properties make it valuable in various industrial processes.

Metal Cleaning & Pretreatment: Used in formulations for cleaning metal surfaces and for metal surface pretreatment processes to prevent corrosion and control scale.

Industrial & Container Cleaning: Applied in the cleaning of containers and industrial equipment to remove and control inorganic scale and iron deposits.

Detergent Additive: Used as a builder in detergents, serving as an eco-friendly alternative to sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) in phosphate-limited regions.

Swimming Pool Antifouling: Helps prevent scale formation and fouling in swimming pool water treatment systems.

Textile & Dyeing: Serves as a stabilizer in oxygen bleaching processes by chelating metal ions like Fe³⁺ and Cu²⁺, which prevents the ineffective decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂).

Oilfield & Mining: Used as a scale inhibitor in oilfield water injection systems (effective up to ~120°C) and in mining operations to control scale in process water.

Electronics & High-Pressure Boilers: High-purity, colorless grades are specifically demanded for sensitive applications such as electronics manufacturing and high-pressure boiler systems to minimize impurities.
