What is the suitable temperature for Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC)?

For Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC), the "suitable temperature" depends on whether you are considering its storage or application.

Storage Temperature

For storage, the guidance varies, but the safest approach is to keep it cool:

Recommended: To maintain its stability and shelf life, a cool environment is essential. Some sources specifically recommend a storage temperature of 0-6°C (32-43°F) .

Acceptable Limit: It is also noted that the product will not deteriorate at temperatures below 120°C (248°F), indicating it can tolerate typical ambient warehouse heat without breaking down .

General Rule: Always store SDIC in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from fire and direct sunlight .

Application/Decomposition Temperature

When used in an aqueous solution, SDIC is stable under normal environmental temperatures. For example, one study showed that a SDIC solution kept at 20°C (68°F) retained its active chlorine content effectively with no significant decay over three weeks .

It is also important to know its thermal limits as a chemical solid. SDIC typically decomposes at temperatures between 225-250°C (437-482°F) . It is stable within a wide range, but decomposes if exposed to extreme heat approaching these levels.
