How is HEDP used in industrial circulating cooling water systems?

HEDP, which stands for 1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-Diphosphonic Acid, is commonly used in industrial circulating cooling water systems as a scale and corrosion inhibitor. It helps to prevent the formation of scale deposits and protects metal equipment from corrosion in these water systems.

HEDP achieves this by forming stable complexes with metal ions in the water, which prevents the precipitation of scale-forming compounds such as calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate. Additionally, it forms a protective film on metal surfaces, which inhibits corrosion caused by dissolved oxygen and other corrosive substances in the water.

Overall, HEDP serves as an effective treatment for maintaining the efficiency and integrity of industrial circulating cooling water systems by controlling scale formation and corrosion.
