What state of metal ions are easily chelated by chelating agents

Chelating agents are chemical substances that can form coordination bonds with metal ions. Different chelating agents have different selectivity for metal ions, but generally speaking, the main chelating agents that are easy to chelate are dissolved or dissociated metal ions.

Common easily chelating metal ion states include:

Divalent ions (+2): such as nickel ions (Ni ^ 2+), copper ions (Cu ^ 2+), manganese ions (Mn ^ 2+), calcium ions (Ca ^ 2+), etc.

Trivalent ions (+3): such as iron ions (Fe ^ 3+), aluminum ions (Al ^ 3+), chromium ions (Cr ^ 3+), cadmium ions (Cd ^ 3+), etc.

It should be noted that different chelating agents have different affinity for specific metal ions, so for specific metal ions, some chelating agents may be more likely to chelate with them to form stable coordination compounds, while other chelating agents may have lower selectivity to varying degrees. In addition, conditions such as pH value and temperature can also affect the progress and equilibrium of chelation reactions.
