The role of metal ion chelating agents in injections

Metal ion chelators in injections mainly refer to a class of chemical substances that can form stable coordination compounds with certain metal ions contained in the injection, thereby improving the chemical and biological properties of the drug, enhancing its stability and safety.

In the preparation process of injections, it is often necessary to add some metal ions as catalysts or stabilizers, such as iron, copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, chromium, and other metal ions. These metal ions are prone to combine with other active ingredients or ions in body fluids, forming precipitation or precipitation reactions, which in turn affect the effectiveness and safety of drugs. Therefore, adding metal ion chelating agents can effectively inhibit this reaction, increase the stability and bioavailability of the drug.

Common metal ion chelating agents hedp include EDTA (ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid), DTPA (diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid) EGTA (ethylene glycol isocyanate, TEA, etc.). For example, EDTA can form stable six coordinated complexes with various metal ions, including Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe3+, Cu2+, etc., to remove the influence of these metal ions, avoid their precipitation or precipitation reactions on other drug components in the injection or in the body fluid, and increase the bioavailability and stability of the drug.

In summary, metal ion chelators in injections play an important role in drug preparation and application. By forming stable compounds with metal ions, the efficacy, safety, and stability of drugs can be improved, thereby better meeting clinical needs.
